Thursday Series – Race 3

Thanks to Katherine Sharp for her report on the evening’s sail.Sixteen boats took to the water on a sunny evening with fairly light winds.A fairly becalmed start meant that the boats were fairly close.  As the first lap came to an end the fleets were slightly more spread. Colin Stephens (crew Simon Lees) led the Enterprises with the returning John Matthews and crew David Williams hot on their tail. Some boats became stuck on the turning mark due to shifts and gaps in the wind.

The Solo’s sailed by Steve Patten and Duncan Smith had a good tussle but the light winds favoured Steve and he managed to stretch his lead.

Trainees made their first outing on to the Bay practicing their tacking drills – a perfect evening for it.

The Mirror’s soon split and Eric Taylor took the lead followed by Sebi Schmidt sailing single-handed.

Thankfully the wind filled slightly allowing the boats to get the kites flying and some competitive racing to continue.

After a slight miscount Colin headed for the finish line nearly allowing John and David to sneak through but he managed to keep his lead until the finish.

The Lasers were led by Kian Andrews from the start – the Fleet managed to stay together and Claire Edkins held a convincing second to the finish line.  Joe Smith did a great job to hold onto third place.
