Frostbite Six!

A superb turnout of twenty one dinghies signed in for the sixth sail of the Frostbite series.

Following the challenging conditions of the previous weekend – this Sunday the sailors rigged their boats in a beautiful sunny afternoon with a steady Northerly wind Force 2-3.

All dinghies were at the start line for the scheduled 2.00pm start and the Race Officer Katherine Sharp organized a four lap, starboard hand, triangular course.

The seven handicap boats had a clean start. Adam and Thomas Ellery flew around the course in their Osprey – with the RS200 (Jeremy Gilbert and Liz Munro) coming in a close second after the results had been calculated. The two Larks had a tight battle throughout for third position with places changing after the first lap. At the end of lap three there was only four seconds between them but Dan Sell (crew Mark Chadwick) pulled away slightly on the last lap to gain third place over Mike and Finley Williams

In the four strong, Enterprise Fleet, it was a competitive start – with all boats on the line – in fact, so competitive that two were over before the horn! Terry and Oriel Marks led for the first two laps but John Matthews (crew Di Stephens) had a superb third beat and squeezed into the lead – which he held until the finish. Martyn Curnow (crew Aidan Mooney) and Paul Whitehead (crew Richard Walker) had a very close battle with places changing every lap – Martyn pulling out on the last lap to achieve third position.

There was a healthy six lasers on the water with Kian Andrews earning a convincing win. The battles occurred further down the fleet with Duncan Bruce gaining second over Paul Kavannagh.

Four Mirrors crossed the start line and after the first lap there was only seventeen seconds between the first three places. After the second lap there was only twenty four seconds separating them and it all came down to the final lap. At the finish line it was Colin and Luke Stephens in first, followed by Eric Taylor (crew Aoife Mooney) in second and juniors Lloyd Williams (crew Sebi Schmidt) in third.
