After a short postponement eleven dinghies headed towards the start line on a “wet and wild” evening.
An asymmetrical course was favoured by the Race Officer which enabled the two RS200 to get their spinnakers flying.
There was a close battle between the leading Enterprises of Colin Stephens (crew Simon Lees) and Jeremy Williams (crew Di Stephens) – with Colin forced to complete one 360 degree turn following an infringement.
Martyn Curnow (crew Adam Poole) and single handed Giles Gilbert both decided to sample the water temperature on the gybe mark.
In the Mirror Fleet Eric Taylor (crew Lloyd Williams) made it look easy despite the gusty conditions, with juniors Ruby and Polly Stephens also coping very well.
The fight for first in the Enterprise Fleet continued until the end with a continuous cat and mouse battle. Colin squeezed past into the lead on the leeward mark on the last lap which he held until the final beat. However, at the finish line it was Jeremy that took the honours over the line by a mere 17 seconds
In the Laser Fleet Brian Aldgate was left to battle alone as Paul Whitehead retired before the fifth lap.
