Cruiser Report – Monday 23rd May

Monday’s race was enjoyable with sun, 10 knots of breeze, flat sea and 10 boats on the start line, 5 in each fleet.

As it was a Northerly wind – a run start gave an opportunity for slick spinnaker work at the start and a colourful view for the clubhouse.

Solo had good start with spinnaker flying over the line just after the gun with Seawyfe just behind. Solo stayed well ahead until the leg to Gear when Riff Raff and Laid Back stormed past. These two had been having a great duel downwind but Riff Raff pulled ahead on the windward leg and despite Laid Back looking for the fabled lift off the harbour wall, Riff Raff took line honours.

As so often at this time of year, the wind dropping in the latter part made it a struggle for the slower boats. With the wind dying Solo was passed by Disting right on the finish line but finished ahead of 2 of the Ryman fleet.

Thanks to the galley and bar staff who stayed late.
