What courses do we offer?
We run the “Day Skipper” and “Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore” courses and the diagram below shows how these fit into the RYA training scheme.
Day Skipper
A comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers. This course equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. A basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night cruising. For more information see the RYA website.
Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore
Advanced training for more experienced skippers building on the Day Skipper course. This course equips you to navigate safely on coastal and offshore passages. For more information see the RYA website.
What do I need to bring with me?
When you sign up for our shorebased courses the RYA study pack of charts and course notes is included in the course fee. However, to get the most out of the course you will need:
– Dividers
– Portland plotter (or simular)
– 2B pencil (not HB)
– Eraser
– Notebook
– Simple calculator

The pages below contain resource which you might find of use if you are taking one of our courses.
We may recommend you to read through particular pages before and during the course to prepare you for each session. However, they can be used at any time before, during or after your course to support your learning.
When reading through the pages the videos are labeled in the following ways:
Video: Skill
This is a video covering a skill or topic which is you will need to master as part of the course. We will run through this in person, however, this video will give you a head start and we would recommend you watch this before the day.
Video: Addition information
This video contains addition information which, while important, is of a secondary importance when preparing for your course. If short of time focus on the “Skill” videos.
